One way of achieving this is through the practice of Yoga - Yoga is for everyone and is perfect for both anyone new to exercise as well as the fanatical sportsperson. It improves strength, balance and flexibility and is particularly beneficial for anyone suffering short and long-term injuries. I discovered yoga late in life after careers in the Armed Forces, Probation Service and, latterly, as a primary school teacher (where I taught yoga and relaxation to my year 5/6 class). I trained in India in 2023 under the instruction of a teacher who had himself been a student of some of the most respected gurus from the late 20th century, including Sri BKS Iyengar. My teaching style blends traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Iyengar-inspired alignment techniques.
Yoga can also give you more energy, brighten your mood and help you manage stress. As a former primary school teacher, I saw the debilitating effect the pandemic had on both adults and children and how Yoga helped to restore them to the healthy lifestyles they had before. I therefore took the decision to leave teaching and focus on providing wellbeing activities in the community, setting up Warrior One Wellbeing to deliver this.
A healthy lifestyle involves looking after yourself in other ways too and I am trained to level 4 Diploma in massage therapy for sports and hold a Diploma in Indian head massage therapy. Massage is one of the earliest known therapeutic practices. Treatments for various disorders were based on the belief that massage therapy had curative characteristics shared by many ancient cultures, including the Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese, and Indians. Therapeutic massage increases muscle blood flow and warmth, boosts performance, reduces cell adhesion, increases muscular flexibility, and reduces injury risk. Massage is often regarded as an element of integrative medicine, given alongside conventional therapy for many medical illnesses and circumstances. Call or email to book an appointment.
